Computer Upgrade at the Library!

The Library will be replacing all staff and public PCs beginning in June. Our last hardware upgrade was in 2006. The new public PCs are ENERGY STAR^® 5.0 qualified, using up to 75% less electricity than PCs without enabled power management features. All of the new PCs will be much more powerful than the older models, and have the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system installed. Microsoft Office 2010 and internet access will continue to be offered on every computer.

Recycle Your Holiday Lights!

Did you know that strings of holiday lights and extension cords can be recycled? Library staff participate in this program, which keeps recyclable materials out of the waste stream. There are no drop-off locations in Prospect Heights, but our neighbors Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Wheeling each have them. Check the website of Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) for exact locations, dates and hours.

Use Plants to Clean Indoor Air Pollutants

Houseplants can become an integral component of healthy buildings and healthy living. The Library has many resources to help you learn more about this subject. How to Grow Fresh Air: 50 houseplants that purify your home or office by Dr. B. C. Wolverton stresses the importance of indoor air quality.

Other "green" books that may be of interest are 50 Plus One Tips for Going Green by Alicia Marie Smith; and The Green Book: the everyday guide to saving the planet one simple step at a time by Elizabeth Rogers.

The Library Has New Recycling Bins!

Check out our new larger and more visible recycling bins placed throughout the Library. They are located indoors and outdoors to make recycling easier for both you and our Library staff. We hope you continue to support our Library Green Team's commitment to make our library more earth friendly.
