Darkness Falls by Kyle Mills

Darkness_falls A bacteria has been introduced into Saudi Arabia's top producing oil wells that halts all production by eating the oil and destroying drilling equipment. Worst of all, this bacteria has the ability to spread. If this contagion isn't stopped, it will infiltrate the world's petroleum reserves and cut the world off from the energy that provides the heat, food and transportation that is necessary for survival. Erin Neal, the world's foremost expert in analyzing and preventing oil field disasters, finds himself in the Saudi desert studying the bacteria. He soon realizes that this bacteria seems eerily familiar and couldn't possibly have evolved on it's own.
