After "The Great Storm", people have finally realized that drastic measures must be taken in order to curb global warming. Great Britain will now be the guinea pig for carbon rationing, and teen Laura Brown is NOT pleased. Everything will now be a choice- use up your ration on the car? Nope. Vacation to Ibiza? Not anymore. Hairdryer or toast? Heat or computer? All of Britain seems to be in complete chaos, and things just get worse when the weather goes nuts. A drought means water rations too, and things really get messed up when the government shuts off individual water supplies for standpipes in the street. Will Laura and her family make it?

This book is an interesting look at what could happen if we don't stop and think about the resources we waste everyday.

Colin, a child prodigy, has a thing for Katherines. He has dated-and been dumped by- 19 of them. The last Katherine has left him so devastated that Colin and his best friend Hassan decide to take a road trip to ease the pain. They end up in Gutshot, Tennessee and Colin decides that he will finally become a genius (and get the girl) by writing the Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability. Can this theorem really predict future relationships, and will Colin ever get the girl?

Lia and Cassie were each trying to be the skinniest. When Cassie dies, Lia is left alone to struggle with her own anorexia. This book is impossible to put down, and a must-read.

Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan (YA TAN)
This collection of short stories ranges from the rather cute to the mildly disturbing. Think tiny alien visitors and handpainted missiles in the backyard. The stories leave an impression, and the artwork is amazing.

A tragic storm destroys everything and everyone Mau knows- and shipwrecks Daphne on Mau's island. Together they need to find a way to work together to create a new Nation.

 The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson (YA PEA)
Jenna has just woken up from a year long coma, and she can't remember ANYTHING. Jenna does know that everyone around her is acting weird. What really happened after the accident? Why can't Jenna shake the feeling that something isn't right?

This is one of the best books I've read all year. I highly recommend it.

Mrs. Starch is the most feared teacher at Truman School. She was last seen on a field trip to the swamp. Nick and Marta don't buy the story that Mrs. Starch has a "family emergency"- as far as anyone knows, she has no family! Add a known arsonist, some shady businesspeople, and a mysterious panther in the swamp, and you've one weird situation.
